- We love Bees! - Syrup that can no longer be sold is sent to local Sonoma County Beekeepers where it is used as an all-natural bee feed. Bee pollination directly or indirectly influences every third bite of food that humans consume; “Colony Collapse Disorder” has dramatically reduced the bee population in recent years. Sonoma Syrup is a donor to UC Davis Honey and Pollination Center at the Robert Mondavi Institute as well as the Harry H. Laidlaw Jr. Honey Bee Research Facility.
- Sonoma Valley Education Foundation - provides grants for local Sonoma Valley Schools. Through our donations, we are able to assist the Foundation in their mission of providing a steady stream of teacher grants for everything from math supplies and bilingual books, to a puppet theater and a running club. Are your product Natural or Organic?We are dedicated to making healthy indulgences for you and your family. We use certified organic Meyer Lemons, lavender flowers and Mint Leaves and we produce extracts Certified Organic by California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOFF). We have provided nutritional information for most of our products, so please visit the specific page of the product you are interested in to view the nutritional information.
Why is there a ring on the inside of a Sonoma Syrup bottle or floating/sediment at the bottom?This may be caused by any naturally occurring fruit or botanical oils, pulp or pectin contained in the syrup. Because we are infusing fresh spearmint leaves this may naturally throw particulate into the syrup. This should dissolve once shaken and is not a cause of concern. What quality guidelines does Sonoma Syrup have?The goal at Sonoma Syrup is to produce the finest syrups and products available. Although we are artisan small batch we implement rigorous procedures that ensure top quality at every stage of ingredient sourcing and production. Sonoma Syrup manufactures its products under a Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points (HACCP) operating plan and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to maximize product safety.
Are Sonoma Syrup bottles and packaging materials recyclable?Yes, all Sonoma Syrup glass bottles are highly recyclable and packaging materials are made with environmentally friendly packaging made of recycled materials. Our label ink is environmentally safe.
Why does my milk used for lattes sometimes curdle when adding fruit syrups?Sonoma Syrup fruit syrups contain the acids from the real fruit, which can cause milk to curdle. It is a natural occurrence and does not affect the flavor. A popular technique in coffeehouses is to add Sonoma Syrup to the coffee first, and then pour in the steamed milk. The coffee dilutes the acidity of the syrup so the milk can remain creamy.
Do Sonoma Syrups contain any allergens? Gluten?There are no allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, fish, shellfish, soy, eggs, wheat) used as ingredients, however, our products are produced and packaged on equipment that may come in contact with wheat, tree nuts, soy, eggs, shellfish, dairy, fish and peanuts so we cannot be 100% gluten free certain.
What is the type of sugar used? How do I know your syrups are truly artisanal made?All our Simple Syrup are hand crafted in small batch steam kettles with pure cane sugar, 70% sourced from the United States. You can be sure we are artisan and hand crafted. For our Meyer Lemon Infused Syrup - we purchase directly from our farmer and his certified organic Meyer Lemon orchard, the fresh Meyer Lemons are harvested at the perfect time, usually the season is May through November here in California, hand peeled to only get the perfect outer rind and hand squeezed for infusing in our syrup. Usually Rudy by hand, steeps the lemon peels with a 6’ tall whisk to ensure all flavors are infused completely. Each fruit flavor or botanical has a hand crafted process. We also produce an Agave Simple Syrup for low-glycemic index concerns. We were the first all-natural syrup company in the United States on the scene in 2003 to NOT use High Fructose Corn Syrup or any preservatives, artificial flavors or colors and we still never do!
Storage & Shelf Life
Where is the expiration date located?The expiration date is printed on the shoulder or bottom round of the Sonoma Syrup bottle (Best Before date plus our product code and Julian stamp date to ensure we can track back any bottle anywhere in the world at any time).
Do Sonoma Syrup products need to be refrigerated?Our Artisan Infused Syrups do not require refrigeration. If refrigerated, like honey, they may begin to form sugar crystals. Refrigeration is recommended for Bittersweet Chocolate and Sea Salt Caramel Syrups and can be gently warmed if the chocolate hardens in the bottle. All Artisan Bar Mixers must be refrigerated after opening. Our Artisan Extracts do not require refrigeration, but should be stored in a cool, dry, dark location to maintain best flavor.
What is the shelf life of opened Sonoma Syrup?As with any all natural product it is important to keep the cap clean and close tightly. Store in a pantry setting of 65 to 75F degrees and keep away from direct light, heat and freezing temperatures. If using pumps or pour spouts, cover pumps with foil or plastic overnight in order to prevent any possible natural air born mold entering through the pump or spout opening. Our syrups are formulated to last a long time even when opened.
What is the shelf life?Our Artisan Infused Simple Syrups are best for 30 months from the date of manufacture. The Bittersweet Chocolate and Sea Salt Caramel Syrups are best for 18 months from the date of manufacture. All Artisan Bar Mixers are best within 24 months the date of manufacture and must be refrigerated after opening. For Olive Mary Mix, estimated shelf-life is 24 months unopened and 6 months once opened and when stored tightly sealed in refrigerator. The Artisan Extracts are best when used within 36 months from date of manufacture and should be stored away from heat and in a cool, dark, dry location to maintain best flavor.
