Ingredients
Instructions
  1. Heat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Butter 8 ramekins or a 1 quart baking dish. Set a shallow pan large enough to hold the ramekins or dish in the oven and fill with 1 inch of hot water.
  3. Whisk the yolks together. Stir in the sugar and salt.
  4. Slowly whisk in the hot milk and cream mixture until completely combined.
  5. Add the vanilla extract.
  6. Pour into the ramekins or dish and sprinkle with nutmeg if desired.
  7. Put in the pan and bake for about 35 to 40 minutes.
  8. The custard is set if a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
